Pratik Gandhi launches Canadian Wind Repertoire, 2006-2021

Toronto-based conductor, percussionist, clinician, and researcher Pratik Gandhi has officially launched the online resource Canadian Wind Repertoire, 2006-2021.

Created in partial fulfillment of course requirements for Gandhi’s doctoral studies at York University, the database compiles Canadian wind repertoire written between 2006 and 2021. Following Michael Burch-Pesses’ seminal work, Canadian Band Music (2008), Gandhi wished to shine a light on the greater diversity of Canadian composers who have been writing music for winds in the last fifteen years. This resource is intended as a public service for music educators and students in Canada and everywhere.

“I am thrilled to officially debut this labour of love which has taken me many months to pull together and is now finally ready to share,” Gandhi says. “My hope is that it will help band directors and students find, learn about, and perform some of the wonderful music for wind band that has been written by Canadian composers over the last little while. Please share with your networks!”

The information in the database was compiled from the websites of the composers and publishers, from assorted other public records, and from the library records of the Canadian Music Centre.

Please take some time to explore—and share—the Canadian Wind Repertoire, 2006-2021
