In Memory of Rachel Laurin

It is with deep sadness that we have to inform you that Rachel, our beloved sister, passed away this morning at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Ottawa where she had been hospitalized for over a month. May she rest in peace. And may her beautiful music be heard for a long time to come, thanks to the magnificent performers who continue to pay homage to her around the world. A big thank you to all, faithful friends, musicians, music lovers and admirers for your support throughout her career and, more particularly, during this last year when the disease has, little by little, deprived her of her most beautiful dreams and of her great passion : music.

​Rachel Laurin has been an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre in Quebec since 1989. She has composed hundreds of works for solo instruments, voice, chamber ensembles, choir and orchestra. These works are frequently performed and recorded nationally and internationally, on all five continents.

Rachel Laurin passed away on August 13, 2023 at the age of 62. Born on August 11, 1961, she was the daughter of the late Jacques Laurin and Madeleine Brunet. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brothers Jean-Claude (Réjane St-Jacques), Guillaume, her sisters Roseline (Jocelyn Langlois), Solange, Jacqueline and Mireille As well as many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins.

A beloved composer, organist and educator, her passing is a great loss to the Canadian musical community. May her beautiful music be heard for many years to come, thanks to the magnificent performers who continue to pay tribute to her around the world.

The family wishes to thank all the generous donors who supported her during her illness.

The funeral will take place on : Friday, August 18 at 2 p.m.
